The Dental Hacks meet the Working Interferences (DHP169)

Dr. Josh Austin and Dr. Lance Timmerman join Jason and Alan to talk about their new podcast, Working Interferences with Josh and Lance.

You know what would be a great idea? A podcast that gives advice to dental people. Or not so great advice. Either way, really. Dr. Josh Austin and Dr. Lance Timmerman have just the thing! The Hacks and the Interferences go through some “Working Interferences” style advice and it’s a blast! Beware…it gets pretty ugly. Perhaps the most editing for content of any Dental Hacks podcast in the past!

The future of dental impressions with Dan Krueger and Jim Graham of 3M (DHP167)

We take impressions. All day, every day. Dan Krueger and Jim Graham of 3M explain what the future looks like for dental impressions

Recently 3M gave the Dental Hacks an amazing opportunity. Alan recently made a trip to Minnesota and visited the amazing 3M campus! We talked with Dan Krueger and Jim Graham, two scientist/engineer/developer types at 3M who spend their time making dental impressions faster, better and easier for dentists! What’s the latest and greatest in conventional impression materials? What’s the state of the art in intraoral scanners? What will impressions look like in 5 years and beyond!

First, breathe through your nose with Dr. Jeff Rouse (DHP165)

Dr. Jeff Rouse joins Jason and Alan to give a systematic and common sense approach to screening and treating airway problems in the dental office.

Sleep apnea. Airway disturbances. You’ve heard a lot about the diagnosis and treatment of these problems on this very podcast! In episode 165 Dr. Jeff Rouse makes an excellent case for why being aware of the airway has changed the way he practices dentistry. Jeff is a prosthodontist practicing in San Antonio as well as in Seattle with Dr. Frank Spear, Dr. Gregg Kinzer and Dr. Stephanie Zeller. His background is in restorative dentistry and interdisciplinary treatment planning (he wrote books on this stuff!) but he’s most passionate about airway! He tells us about how he practices on a day to day basis and how he’s simplified the diagnosis and treatment of airway disturbances in children and adults. We give Jeff permission to be “king of the world” to explain what the perfect treatment team would be and he lays out his simplified (and brilliant) protocol for helping patients with their airway!

The Smartest Guys in the room with Dr. John Khademi and Dr. Eric Herbranson (DHP161)

Dr. John Khademi and Dr. Eric Herbranson join Alan to talk about the state of endodontics, conserving dentin and how we know what we know.

I got to know Dr. John Khademi in the mid-2000’s from Dental Town. I was introduced to Dr. Eric Herbranson in 2011 at the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry where he talked about the 3D Tooth Atlas he had created. Both are influential endodontists who have controversial ideas about how we’ve been treating teeth over the years.

Today’s episode features a journey from patient based outcomes to case selection, access openings to how we know what we know. There’s a fair amount of hero worship here I’ve been a huge fan of these guys for quite some time. And a bonus…the one and only Dr. David Clark of Bioclear sits down at the end and talks endo!

If you like endo (or even if you don’t), this interview will change the way you look at saving teeth!
