Real dentists do composite with Dr. Dennis Hartlieb (DHP145)

In episode 145 Dr. Dennis Hartlieb joins Jason and Alan to talk about his journey from believing composite was a “temporary material” into creating an entire rehab in composite!

Dr. Dennis Hartlieb was one of Dr. Frank Spear’s original students. He’s been learning excellence in restorative dentistry for 25  years or more. But like many dentists, he used to believe composite had no place in long term restorative dentistry. Then he met Dr. Buddy Mopper and he began to change his mind. Dennis is a really engaged teacher. Really approachable and seems to really understand how dentists learn. Some highlights:

  • Dennis’s approach to team bulding…learn one, do one, teach one!
  • Simple composite solutions that can make a huge difference!
  • How does sleep apnea affect restorative dentistry?
  • A description of Dennis’ course at Cosmedent, “CPR for the worn dentition.”

The Brain Trust asks: “Are traditional associateships dying?” (DHP144)

Episode 144 features a Brain Trust with Dr. Tarun Agawal, Dr. Paul Goodman and Dr. Sully Sullivan talking about the future of associateships.

So what happened to all the traditional associateships? You know the ones. They paid pretty good, they had mentorship, they usually led to a buy in of the practice after a period of time. It seems like these opportunities are few and far between. The Brain Trust breaks down the pros and cons of associateships. Why they fail, why they’re getting rare and what potential associates and owner docs can do to make the chances of getting a good one more likely!

Alan is joined by Dr. Frank Clayton, Dr. Tammy Bailey, Dr. Artie Volker and a brand new Brain Trust member, Dr. Paul Goodman! Dentists are quickly becoming the most likely screeners for this potential deadly condition, and Dr. Jamison Spencer is one of the most sought after lecturers on the subject. Dr. Jonathan Abenaim on 3D printing, in office milling and the future of dentistry (DHP139)

This week we feature Dr. Jonathan Abenaim talking about what he prints and mills in his office as well as the Brain Trust talking about Instagram for the dental office and how video makes social media more powerful.

Have you ever wondered “will I be printing stuff in my office someday?” Dr. Jonathan Abenaim is pretty sure most offices will be printing some stuff, but definitely milling a LOT of stuff. He’s doing tons of it every day in his office and he tells us all about it in episode 139! What kind of scanner do you need? What order should you invest? You get it all from the man who runs Smile Syllabus, a one stop CE extravaganza all about incorporating technology into your practice!

In our Brain Trust we feature Jason and Dr. Ryan McCall explaining to the older (read “more experienced”) and less social media savvy Dr. Frank Clayton, Dr. Melissa Zettler and Alan. Instagram for the dental practice? Incorporating video? Local targeting? These guys lay it all out for you. As JLips says, “it’s super easy.” Sure, JLips. We believe you.

Have you ever tried to mask a grey or discolored tooth with composite? It’s not easy, right? Most opaques are white and chalky. Why is the Crystal HD mirror from Zirc different? It’s the way that it’s made. They use a combination of 3 metal oxide layers to coat their mirror lens. It’s brighter and clearer than rhodium, but just as scratch resistant! Check out the Crystal HD mirror at www.dentalhacks.com/mirrors.

A shot across the bow with Dr. Jonathan Abenaim (DHP138)

Episode 138 features Dr. Jonathan Abenaim shaking up the status quo about digital dentistry and a Brain Trust on social media for 2017.

What is digital dentistry? Dr. Jonathan Abenaim has some thoughts about this. And they might surprise you! Dr. Abenaim is a dentist who has learned all the major digital dentistry systems, prints and mills most everything in his office and basically has this stuff figured out. Look, you know he’s controversial when he calls the CEREC (which he uses on a daily basis) the “Easy Bake Oven” of dentistry. Jonathan runs Smile Syllabus which teaches dentists how to incorporate digital technologies into their day to day workflow.

Our Brain Trust features the return of Dr. Ryan McCall along with regulars Dr. Melissa Zettler and Dr. Frank Clayton as we discuss how we’re using social media in our practices in 2017! Websites, reviews, Facebook…we talk about all of it.

Behind the scenes with Julie Charlestein (DHP136)

Episode 136 features the second half of our interview with Premier Dental CEO Julie Charlestein and a Brain Trust featuring Sue Robinson on leadership and running your dental office.

Have you ever wondered how a dental company thinks about branding? What the CEO of your favorite dental manufacturer does on a day to day basis? Julie Charlestein of Premier Dental talks about what Premier is doing to help dentists to recognize their brands (new logo anyone?). It’s interesting to hear what’s going with the companies that provide the products we use every day!

Leadership. Dentists and owners need to understand it, but it’s not intuitive. The Brain Trust is back talking with Sue Robinson of Practice with Honor. Jason, Dr. Dawn Kulongowski and Dr. Rich Rosenblatt are all clients of Sue and the talk about what Sue has done for them. Helping manage your team, helping understand how to be self aware and how you communicate are all things that dentists don’t realize are important skills! Not only that, Sue can help clean up old insurance claims and even help manage your front desk from behind the scenes! If you have questions about running your practice, you should check Sue out!
